Aeronautical Study

The Aeronautical Study, as referred to in the Civil Aviation Requirements Section-4, Series ‘B’, Part I on Aerodrome Design and Operations and ICAO Annex 14, may be conducted to determine that the existing object or the proposed new object would not adversely affect the safety or significantly affect the regularity of operations of aeroplanes in pursuance of the ICAO provisions.
Aeronautical Studies are specialized evaluations carried out by AAI to determine whether proposed structures—such as buildings, chimneys, or cranes—pose any risks to air navigation. These studies are particularly pertinent when a proposed structure exceeds the standard permissible height or is situated near an airport.
  Key aspects include:
  • Eligibility: Aeronautical Studies are not conducted for structures within the Approach and Transition surfaces due to stringent safety regulations.
  • Approval Process: The decision to undertake an Aeronautical Study is made on a case-by-case basis by the Member (Air Navigation Services) of AAI.
  • Conducting the Study: The study is performed by AAI or other agencies approved by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
  • Outcome: Based on the study's findings, AAI may issue a revised height clearance to the applicant.
  • With hands-on experience in over 100 AAI-conducted Aeronautical Studies, our team brings unparalleled insight into the regulatory framework and technical nuances of aviation safety.
